WebbAs for laying underlayment (aka...plywood) it is COMMON to have to use screws every 6" in the field or ever 4" on the edges. Very common. In fact, if you go to the hardware store and look at underlayment grade plywood, you will notice blue "x" all over them. That is the screw schedule. Webb16 juni 2008 · Screws are a great idea. I actually used a mixture: 2 inch 10s (ok, ok, 50mm x 5) to go right through the ply, through the floor boards and into the joists. So as long as you've drilled good pilot and clearance holes and countersunk them, they pull the ply against the joists. i.e. very very firm.
