Eglė Eglė names a legendary Lithuanian woman who married the Serpent Prince. Eglė the Queen of Serpents is one of the best-known Lithuanian fairy tales. The name translates to “spruce tree.” The tale was first published by Carl Cappeller [sv] in a 1924 German language translation of Lithuanian fairy tales with the title Von der Schwanenjungfrau, die des Königs Gattin wurde ("About the Swan Maiden who became a King's Wife").
